KONTAKT 3.5 Released–Probably an Appropriate Version Number

Tech-Heavy Feature Upgrades

Among the highlights from NI:

  • full Vista 64 compatibility, including "64-bit memory addressing to utilize practically unlimited amounts of RAM,”
  • 32GB RAM max limit on Mac OS 10.4 and up,
  • a new disk-streaming algorithm that apparently doesn’t use any RAM,
  • multithreading,
  • MIDI learn,
  • and improved Pro Tools integration.

No Wicked Fun Sound Design Doodads?

Yeah, the PR is all efficiency, compatibility, and power…nothing to get musicians off, probably why it’s a point-5 upgrade.

Free upgrade for KONTAKT 3 owners. (Like me! Good, I’m broke.)

OK, quick tip if, like me, you struggled with this for a minute. In Record, the F5, F6, and F7 keys activate views for the mixer, rack, and sequencer respectively. Simultaneous presses of two or more F5-7 keys summons split views. Useful. All this is demonstrated in one of the videos included in the Record download. Read More »
